What was our client looking for?

The National Trust is charity that works to preserve and protect historic places and spaces such as houses, gardens, forests and woods. Wimpole Hall is a Grade I listed Georgian mansion house in Cambridgeshire, owned by the National Trust. This building is used extensively throughout the spring and summer months for weddings and corporate events.

How did we help?

Mitie successfully secured the tender for the external redecoration to the north elevation of Wimpole Hall. The works comprised the preparation, repair and full external redecoration of the historic sash windows, doors, cast iron rain water goods and also included works to some adjacent vernacular buildings as part of the same contract. We avoided obstructing the visual impact of the hall by suggesting we use a combination of different models of mobile elevated working platforms and mobile tower scaffolding, where were specifically chosen for the tasks and environment conditions of the site.

These particular items of access equipment were comprehensively covered within our risk assessments and method statements; the detail held in these was communicated regularly to our operational team via Toolbox Talks.

The results

The contract was completed on time and within the tender value, and the feedback from staff at the Hall and the wider property was all very positive. National Trust was very pleased with the service received from Mitie’s Contracts Manager and support office staff. National Trust was also particularly pleased with the quality of workmanship and the conduct of site operatives, who established a good working relationship with the staff and also took time to engage with the visitors who were interested to see the work in progress.
