Hartfields Retirement and Extra Care Village- Hartlepool

Owned and managed by Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust.
This was the first time the 216 flats and 28- 2 bedroom cottages had been decorated since being built 13 years ago.
The site has a very harsh coastal environment, so Dulux Ultimate Opaque Woodstain was chosen for all woodwork, windows, doors, facias and soffits. The Woodstain’s longevity (up to 10 years) and ease of application were important, as access to the 4 storey blocks of flats was also an issue.
‘Wharfedale Decorations’ was chosen because of their proven track record with JRHT, of being able to deliver a quality decorating job on time and within budget.
JRHT was looking for a local decorating firm who were able to use apprentices, local suppliers for materials and local labour. All paint cans were returned to the local DDC for recycling.
Access to this job was the biggest issue. Cherry pickers were chosen for their flexibility. The 4 blocks of flats had balconies and the most cost-effective way to work, was by accessing them from the inside. All residents were given advanced notice and there were no issues with paint spills or drips. Denise, the scheme manager, said that they had been very happy with all aspects of the job and that Peter and the rest of his team had been quiet, clean, tidy and had supplied all their own facilities- ‘’Most importantly they have done a quality job”.
