West Street, London
Located in the iconic Covent Garden, West Street is at the heart of London’s theatre district. Home to The Ivy as well as the St Martin’s Theatre, it is a world-renowned street in London and so there was no one better to refurbish office buildings than the expert team at BSPS.
The building is a former chapel and is Grade II listed. The team at BSPS have successfully upgraded the building while exposing and restoring it to its original character and charm. The team stripped back the building to expose the original features and formed new bathrooms to make better use of the available space. This included new plasterboard walls, floor and wall tiles, MEP installation, lighting and exposed M&E installation that created new open plan spaces.
To the exterior, the existing brickwork was re-pointed, the cornice was restored and finished with a lead capping, the original stone copings were replaced with new natural stone ones. We replaced the rooflights with modern double-glazed conservation units.
While keeping fuel carbon in mind, the team recycled as much of the existing features as possible. Brickwork was treated to create feature walls and the columns were left untreated to reveal writing from previous tenants which forms a connection to the building’s past.
The office building is now ready to welcome new tenants, thanks to the specialised team at BSPS.
