Trinity House Lighthouses

Contract details

This project involved the complete external preparation and redecoration of four lighthouses along re-decoration of lighthouse cottages. Before any work was carried out on the contract, all personnel were trained as required by Trinity House. Personnel travelled to Harwich and were trained in ‘Sea Survival’. This involved the simulated crashing of a helicopter and training in the actions needed for survival. Because hoists were also used and it was also a requirement that operatives held IPAF certification. An interesting requirement of the Rope Access training was that each operative, once he or she was trained was required to keep a personal log of their experience and hours spent ‘aloft’.

Due to the remoteness of some of the lighthouses, access equipment had to be flown in. Where this was the case (Alderney and Eddystone) small cradles and rope access equipment were packed and transported by the helicopter to the lighthouse. A wide range of materials were used, specific to each lighthouse, including Liquid Plastics - Monomix, 1 patch coat LPL Bonding Primer and 2 full coats LPL Monolastex and

Rustoleum Mathys ‘Noxyde.
